A Family History Journey Through Time
Elizabeth (Buckler) Bartlett (circa 1875).*
---------------------------------------
Elizabeth Bartlett was the grandmother of Byron Enos Bartlett. She was born on September 30, 1826 in the parish of North Petherwin, Devonshire. ** The small pastoral villages where Henry and Elizabeth spent their childhood years were separated by the entire breadth of the great moor (Dartmoor). It is very likely they first met in London.
After seventeen years of marriage in London and vicinity, Elizabeth, Henry, and their three surviving sons made the decision to follow the message of their new Church that emphasized the duty of converts to make their way to America. On July 14, 1861, Elizabeth, Henry, John and Samuel made the voyage to America on the steamship "Colorado". *** (William, their eldest son, had made the journey several years earlier.) They arrived in New York City on July 28, made their way westward to Utah, and settled in Springville. Elizabeth lived with Henry in Springville until her death on October 8, 1889.
